I deal with embedded systems and communication. I first made a career for myself in business, from software engineer to system architect. I became a teacher because I was already spending a lot of time sharing my knowledge and ideas with the technical community. When I came into contact with Fontys, that turned out to be what their ICT program is all about.

I had to get used to the holidays, for example. There are more of them than in business, but the work in between is more intensive. And to ‘teaching’. I thought that would be easy for me, but I still had a lot to learn. Luckily, I’m doing well. I like it when I hit the right note with the students and see them become motivated and inspired. I really appreciate the fact that I’m allowed to take my time at Fontys.

I don’t really teach. I work together with my students, because they also keep me up to date. Sometimes I get a question that goes beyond my knowledge. Then I dive into YouTube with them and we look for an expert who can explain it clearly. Together we learn something new almost every day.
